Contributor terms

1. Enrolment and station identity

A receiver is linked to an account and given a Layer400 station identifier. The identifier is operational, not a public address and not a replacement for login credentials. Provide a private station name, accurate capability declaration and a position that represents the antenna site. Do not use a home address as the station name.

One account may manage more than one receiver where the account features allow it. Do not claim equipment you do not control or transfer a station without using the supported ownership process.

2. Installation and lawful operation

You must have the owner’s permission for the site, power and network connection. Install antennas, masts, cabling and outdoor enclosures safely and comply with planning, tenancy, electrical, radio, workplace and aviation restrictions that apply to the location. A Layer400 guide is practical information, not a site survey or legal approval.

Passive reception of a broadcast does not remove responsibilities under privacy, communications or computer-misuse law. Do not fit or use hardware to intercept private communications, disrupt radio systems, transmit without authority or enter a restricted site.

3. Accurate configuration

Keep the receiver clock, antenna position, software channel and declared radios accurate. Fixed stations must not report changing receiver coordinates. A mobile mode may be used only where Layer400 explicitly supports it and the device supplies trustworthy location and time.

Use supported capture hardware and do not alter software to invent fields, bypass validation or conceal a material fault. Test and demonstration traffic must use an authorised test path and must never be mixed into the public production feed.

4. Credentials and updates

Receiver credentials belong to one enrolled station. Keep them secret, store them only on the intended device and do not paste them into support messages. Notify Layer400 and rotate or revoke credentials if a device is lost, sold, cloned or compromised.

Apply critical security and protocol updates within a reasonable time. We may block an obsolete, vulnerable or misbehaving build where necessary to protect the network or data quality.

5. Data you contribute

You authorise Layer400 to receive, validate, combine, store, analyse, transform, restrict, display and license the observation and station-health data submitted by the receiver for operating and developing the service. This licence is worldwide, non-exclusive and royalty-free, and continues for records already incorporated into network history after a station disconnects.

You confirm that you are entitled to submit the data and that you will not intentionally include unrelated packet contents, personal files or credentials. Layer400 may discard, quarantine, aggregate, delay or suppress reports for privacy, integrity, technical or legal reasons.

6. Receiver position and contributor privacy

Layer400 uses the confirmed receiver position for distance checks, coverage, quality analysis and network operation. Exact station coordinates are restricted operational data and are not intended for ordinary public display. Coverage views, badges and leaderboards may use a broad area, pseudonymous station ID or contributor display name.

No system can promise absolute secrecy. Choose a non-identifying station name and avoid including an address, person’s name or private key in labels or diagnostics.

7. Availability, statistics and recognition

Uptime, range and detection totals are estimates derived from accepted reports and service monitoring. Internet outages, protocol changes, duplicate processing and quality controls can affect them. Badges, rankings, contributor access and other recognition do not have cash value and may be corrected, redesigned or withdrawn where reasonably necessary.

Contributing does not guarantee continuous service, payment, a minimum coverage result, professional features or permanent complimentary access. Any separate reward or equipment programme will state its own terms.

8. Support and maintenance

You are responsible for routine maintenance and connectivity. We may send operational notices, ask for a diagnostic report that excludes secrets, or request a temporary shutdown while investigating interference, compromise or unreliable data. You may disconnect at any time, but should revoke the station before disposing of or transferring it.

9. Suspension and removal

Layer400 may isolate a receiver or revoke credentials if it creates a security risk, submits unreliable or unlawful data, breaches these terms, remains abandoned, or threatens the service. Where practical, we will provide a reason and a route to correct the problem.
